Learn more about DPF Filters

Ok, here we go again, over the last month we have been talking about our latest bit of kit, this being our Carbon Clean machine and how it helps the performance of your DPF filter and engine.

DPF stands for Diesel Particulate Filter, we thought it would be good to outline a few more specfic details that you don’t see about the DPF filter in your vehicle. Firstly here is a visual of what a DPF filter looks like and the inside of the actual filter.

When you purchase a diesel vehicle it will come with a Diesel Particulate Filter. The DPF filter is repsonsible for catching emissions and soot reducing pollution and helping air quality in our towns and cities.

The DPF was made mandatory in 2009 with the introduction of the Euro 5 exhaust emissions legislation, it was found that 1 in 2 cars that were being purchased by the public were diesel, the new legislation was also introdcued to reduce CO2 emissions.

Over time the DPF filter can become blocked, carbon and soot can build up and the DPF filter will not work in the way it is supposed to. If the DPF filter is not maintained or cleaned then the entire DPF filter may be so badly damaged it will need to be replaced.

Replacing DPF filters can cost anything from £1000 to £3000 depending on the size, however if you regularly clean the DPF filter and any carbon build up in your engine you can save yourself the possibility of needing to change the DPF saving money.

A lot of vehicle owners will take a risk and have the DPF filter removed completely even though this is illegal. If you are caught without the DPF filter you could incur a fine of anything from £1000 to £2500.

So, the solution is to get your vehicle’s engine cleaned and the DPF filter cleaned using our Carbon Clean service and DPF clean service. This way you will save thousands of pounds in the long run not having to have the DPF filter replaced or incuring any fines if your vehicle is caught without a DPF filter.

Here are photos out our Carbon Clean machine and a recent vehicle in our garage workshop having the engine cleaned and the DPF filter cleaned.
