When you start the vehicle normally all the lights and symbols will display for a quick second on your vehicle’s dashboard and then disappear. However, on occasion some of those symbols may remain on the dashboard.
If a symbol is present, then this means you should take a look at the vehicles manual. From here there can be good advice to help you find out why that symbol is being displayed.
Often the manual will tell you to seek advice from a professional garage like ours. However sometimes the symbols are being displayed for much less sinister reasons. Let’s look at an example.
Recently a mechanic of ours switched his engine on and the spanner warning light came on, and he was told to refer to the vehicle’s manual. It turned out that he had parked his car in an area where the sun was beating down on the car in the middle of summer.
What had happened was the oil temperature sensor was picking up heat, and the sensor was telling the vehicle there was heat build up coming from the engine. Therefore, the vehicle should be taken for an engine service. Turns out that when the vehicle got underway again the engine cooled down and the spanner warning light never came back on at all.
The vehicle has been running just fine ever since. So, sometimes fear not if you see a warning light being displayed, it can be as something as innocent as a summer factor making the sensors record temperatures that are high than usual because of weather conditions.
