We have been closely monitoring UK Government proposals to change MOT law.

The government want to extend the date a brand new vehicle should have their first MOT from 3 to 4 years. This has caused a bit of a stir in the motor industry and has led to divisiveness.

A lot of motor traders are saying that this is a dangerous change. Why say this? Well because if a vehicle has driven many thousands of miles depending on what a motorist uses the vehicle for, then underlying issues can develop with even a brand-new car, and with-it being unseen for up to 4 years there could be motorists driving on our roads who have vehicle hazards making the roads less safe.

When you undertake an MOT any hazards and general un-road worthiness will be identified and rectified. The MOT process is designed to make sure cars are road worthy keeping motorists and pedestrians safe when out using the roads.

We will wait and see if the backlash and messages the motor industry are sending the government over these MOT changes will make the government do a u-turn, but it remains to be seen whether any changes will made by the government.
