This vehicle was experiencing all kinds of problems from loud banging noises coming from under the bonnet, the engine was misfiring leading to the engine management light being illuminated on the dashboard.

All of these symptoms are a classic sign of a timing chain issue. In some cases, fault engine codes can be visible on the dashboard such as P0016 or P0017. This can indicate straight away that the vehicle is experiencing some kind of timing chain fault on the ingenium engine.

We inspected the engine and the timing chain, we could see that the timing chain was damaged. This was causing the engine to misfire and was also the culprit for the large banging noises coming from the engine.
