We have had several Audi S3 vehicles come into the garage that have been experiencing howling and screeching noises. On inspection we could see that the wheel bearing, and the drive shaft of the vehicle pictured below had become faulty and needed replacing.

What are wheel bearings?
A wheel bearing is a round shape of ball bearings that are encased in a round object called a race. The ball bearings ensure that there is no friction at the end of the axle where the wheel turns. Ball bearings are used in all kinds of wheels on vehicles from cars, trucks, trains and so many other automotive’s.
If the inner and outer bearings become faulty or worn then the vehicle will make a whistling, screeching, or howling sound. This is a clear sign that you will need to bring the vehicle in for a check up.
What is a drive shaft?
A drive shaft is a component on a vehicle that transmits power, torque, and rotation to the wheel. Without the drive shaft on the vehicle there would be no forward motion on the vehicle or backward motion if you need to reverse.
Because driveshafts are subject to great pressures they can become faulty after doing a certain number of miles when out on the road. This was the case of the Audi we mentioned earlier and why we needed to replace the driveshaft.
