Are you experiencing problems with your BMW 1 series air conditioning system. Well if you are then you may need to get it checked out. BMW have recalled 180,000 vehicles so that the air con system can be checked and repaired, they fear there could be a potential fire hazard.
Vehicles that were built between 2004 and 2011 of the BMW 1 series (E8x) could have the air conditioning fault. Since the first BMW series was built 17 years have passed, if you have bought the car and not registered it with BMW then they will not be able to get hold of you, so be vidulent as the air con system could overheat and cause a fire.
Here is what BMW have said:
“Over time, frictional corrosion can occur at the contacts of the blower regulator due to vibrational stress.
“When combined with high current flow at the maximum blower speed, an increase in temperature can occur, which may result in damage to the regulator connection and wiring. In rare cases this may lead to a fire.
“Cars are being recalled to dealers so the wiring to the regulator can be examined and replaced. In some cases, the regulator may also have to be replaced.”
Symptoms that could suggest you have a problem
If you are experiencing the following symptoms then you will need to get the BMW vehicle in to check if there is a problem.
• The air con system has stopped working completely and there is a complete stop of air flow.
• A burning smell is ventilating in the vehicle.
• The vehicle is filling up with smoke.
