If Your vehicle is due for an MOT over the autumn months, then it may be a good idea to book it in beforehand. Why do we say this? We don’t mean to panic anyone, but the government will be scrapping the MOT extension that was put in place at the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

This means there will be an influx of vehicles coming into the garage for their MOT. Even the DVSA are saying there will be an increase of MOTs being carried out in the autumn months of this year, acquainting to a 22% increase.

The DVSA have found out that 9.58 million vehicle owners took advantage of last years MOT extension. From observations in our own garage, we can see that MOT work has been busier in times where it is normally a lot quieter. This is because people have not MOT’d their vehicles and have taken advantage of the government extension during the pandemic.

These facts coincide with the Garage Finder tool the Motor Ombudsman use to direct motorists to independent garages all over the UK, they have seen a 60 per cent increase in demand in the first half of 2021 alone.
