An ECU is the Electronic Control Unit. The ECU’s job is to run engine systems and controls. Throughout the engine there are all kinds of functions and sensors that transmit data into the ECU, these functions help the vehicle run the way it should.

For example, the kind of data that is relayed to the ECU are things like engine and component performance. If there is a function that is not running correctly in the engine the ECU will let the driver know that there is a problem, the driver will likely see a light such as the engine management light become visible on the dashboard. The ECU is responsible for many things and if there is a problem with the ECU then you have a problem monitoring the performance of your vehicle.
