We are an expert independent garage when it comes to engine servicing. Let’s look at a recent engine job we underwent on a Jaguar vehicle. Here is the Jaguar vehicle pictured below.

There were several reasons this vehicle ended up in one of our engine bays. The vehicle was experiencing large clunky bangs coming from under the bonnet, including vibrations rattling the vehicle on acceleration. This is a classic sign of a timing chain fault.

When we inspected the engine, we could see that the timing chain had become faulty. We therefore had to replace the timing chain. Not only did we have to replace the timing chain we also had to replace the engine mount. The engine mount has become damaged likely a knock-on effect and symptom of the timing chain being faulty.

The engine mount is a very important component of the engine. It is designed to absorb shocks and vibrations to ensure the efficiency of other engine components. If it becomes damaged, then it can lead to other engine components being damaged leading to more costly repairs.

This is why when you experience vibrations and large bangs coming from under the bonnet you must get your vehicle checked right away. Leaving the engine unchecked and driving around with a faulty timing chain can cause more damage to the engine, as it did to the Jaguar vehicle pictured above.

We replaced the timing chain and the engine mount and are happy to say the Jaguar vehicle is back with the owner with a fully serviced engine.
