We are experts when it comes to servicing Jaguar vehicles. Next up we have a Jaguar E-space D180 sitting in one of our engine bays. Here is a photo.

This vehicle was experiencing problems with the DPF. For those who do not know what DPF stands for here it is, it stands for Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). A DPF role on the vehicle is to capture and burn off soot and gases caused in the combustion processes of the engine. DPF’s are required on vehicles to ensure vehicles are meeting environmental standards and regulations to help control pollution levels in the air.
The DPF is situated in the exhaust system of the vehicle. Back in the day many decades ago if you are lucky enough to remember cars used to billow out black smoke from the exhaust. The DPF was invented and fitted on vehicles to ensure soot is burned away ensuring exhaust fumes are far less harmful for the atmosphere and for peoples health. You will not see a vehicle today producing black smoke exhaust fumes because the DPF is ensuring harmful soot and gases are being filtered before they can be released from the vehicle.
If you see a vehicle that is ejecting black smoke from the exhaust, then this is a classic sign that you have a faulty DPF and it needs replacing. This was the problem for the Jaguar vehicle above. We went to work and replaced the DPF, and the vehicle is now meeting environmental regulations when driving out on the road.
