This vehicle was experiencing all kinds of engine problems, mainly loss of power. We inspected the engine and could see the engine liner had become faulty. The engine was consuming large amounts of oil. At first, we thought it was a blown head gasket as the symptoms are similar to a faulty engine liner.

What is the role of an engine liner?

An engine liner is a component placed inside the engine block. It is inserted to support the piston. The liners’ role is to reduce wearing on the engine block; to reduce pressure on the block and to help the piston move freely, the liner also has the important job of absorbing heat away from the internal combustion chamber. If the engine liner is damaged it can cause the engine to overheat reducing the performance of the engine.

More symptoms you have a faulty engine liner

Here are more signs you have a faulty engine liner:

1) White smoke is coming from the exhaust.
2) The engine oil is contaminated with coolant and other materials.
3) You will see coolant levels dropping quickly.
4) There will be visible metal debris present in the oil and oil filter.
5) You will hear large bangs and knocking noises coming from the engine.
