From time to time cars need ‘big jobs’ doing, and here at A1 Diagnostics we’ve got a great team with more than 75 years’ combined experience prepared to tackle even the toughest assignments.
One of the most significant upgrades we can do for a car is to replace the whole engine, and recently one of our customers asked us to do just that for their Vauxhall Corsa. This can be a long effort, sometimes taking a day or more, so we got to work early and set about replacing the inner workings of this great car. Here is the Vauxhall Corsa pictured below with a new reconditioned engine being installed.

The process for replacing an engine sounds straightforward but it requires significant expertise. It starts with the preparation stage, where the battery is disconnected from the engine, and the engine’s oil and coolant are drained to prevent leaks and spills during the transfer process. The radiator is unbolted to facilitate access, too.
Then comes the disconnection stage, where the electrics, engine mounts, exhaust pipes and fuel lines are all separated from the old engine and made ready for attaching to the new. These disconnections must be made safely to ensure a smooth, easy removal of the old engine without damage to the parts left behind.
The final separation is the engine from the gear box, and once this is completed the engine can be removed from the car. This is usually done with a winch, as engines are heavy! The new engine is then also winched in and lowered carefully into place. The process of installing then begins – essentially a reverse of the preparation steps made at the start!
At A1 Diagnostics we undertake numerous engine replacements every year, and our Vauxhall Corsa owner was very pleased with the results we provided for them.
