We always stay up to date with industry news. We often check out the website Garage Wire. We read up on a recent article and we could see that online influencer Mechanic Rich was giving advice with regards to engine oil replacement.

His advice was this. That motorists should change their oil when the vehicle has driven between 4000 and 5000 miles. This goes against most vehicle manufacturers recommendation of 10,000 miles.

Mechanic Richs reasoning was that he believes that not changing the oil after driving over 4000 miles can damage the engine, and the oil’s effectiveness diminishes after driving more than 5000 miles.

What is the purpose of oil in an engine?

Oil in a vehicle is like the blood that runs in our own veins, it keeps the vehicle alive, and keeps everything running smoothly. Oil keeps engine components and parts in the vehicle from grinding and reduces friction. Without oil the engine will seize and get damaged leading to costly repairs needing to be carried out on the engine, in some cases an entire engine rebuild or replacement.

What types of oil are there?

There are many brands of oil you can buy to lubricate your vehicles engine, from Castrol Oil, Shell and Mobil 1.
