We recently under went work on a Volkswagen van. The vehicle was experiencing all kinds of problems from rough idling, heavy fuel consumption and engine knocking sounds. There could be many reasons why the vehicle is experiencing these problems, but on inspection we could see the there was a problem with the EGR valve. Here is the Volkswagen vehicle undergoing inspections at our garage.

We have since found the problem with the EGR valve rectified it and the vehicle is now back with the owner.
What is an EGR valve?
An EGR valve stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is an important component of the vehicle that regulates harmful emission from the engine. When the engine is running it can produce the gas nitrogen oxide which is a gas not good for the atmosphere. The EGR valves job is to circulate this emission back into the engines combustion chamber to burn up nitrogen oxide. This then reduces the amount of hazardous gas that’s get released into the climate.
What are the symptoms you have an EGR fault?
