Most Vauxhall owners who need a wet belt have no idea they own one, because the engine in a current Corsa or Astra is not a Vauxhall engine at all. Since the group merger the petrol under the bonnet is the same PureTech unit fitted to Peugeot and Citroen, and it runs its cam belt inside the engine, in the oil. The first job is working out whether that applies to your car. Replacement starts from £750 plus VAT.
The dividing line is roughly 2019, when Vauxhall moved onto the group engines. Before that, Vauxhall petrols were their own designs with conventional belts or chains. After it, the 1.2 petrol in the Corsa, Astra, Mokka, Crossland and Grandland is the PureTech, and the 1.5 diesel is the group diesel. Both use a wet belt.
So an older Corsa is almost certainly not a wet belt car, and a Corsa registered from 2020 onwards with the 1.2 petrol almost certainly is. Around the changeover it is genuinely worth checking rather than assuming, and if you tell us the registration we can confirm it for you in a couple of minutes at no charge.

Because Vauxhall only adopted these engines in 2019, the affected cars are still relatively new. That matters, because most of them have not failed yet. They are approaching their first belt rather than dealing with the aftermath of a broken one, and that is by far the cheaper end of this problem to be at.
Almost everything expensive about a wet belt comes from what happens after it starts breaking up, when the shed material blocks the oil pickup and the engine loses oil pressure. A belt replaced before that stage is a planned job with a known price. A belt replaced after it is a much bigger conversation. If you own a 2019 onwards Corsa or Astra, being early here is worth real money.
Keep an eye on the oil level between services and take it seriously if it is dropping. Note anything that looks like an oil pressure warning, even a brief flicker on start up, and mention a new rattle when the engine is cold. Those are the early indications that the belt has begun to degrade rather than simply age.
Also check what oil has been going into it. The belt is broken down chemically by the oil it sits in, so the correct specification and sensible change intervals genuinely extend its life. If the car is still on a servicing plan, it is worth confirming what is actually being used.

A routine wet belt replacement starts from £750 plus VAT. If the belt has already begun to break up, the sump and oil pickup need attention as well, and we will tell you that when we inspect rather than after the work. Catching it before that stage is the whole reason we push people to book early on these engines.
If your Vauxhall is older and has a conventional belt or a chain instead, that is a different job entirely and you can read about it on our Vauxhall cam belt and timing chain page. For the same engine under a different badge, see Peugeot wet belt replacement.
